I want you to try this exercise, find the closest mirror, be honest with yourself, and say what you want most out of life. It’s easy to read this and instantly think, “that’s not hard at all” but to really dig deep down and be true to your desires, that’ intimidating. Often times the things we want most out of life isn’t as clear as we hoped and we end up doing things that we really don’t want to do. This is the realization I came across when I looked in the mirror and said to myself, “I just want to be free”.

Hello, my name is Jourdan Eloriaga and I am CO-Founder and CMO of WalletGyde. But I wasn’t always this role, like many of you, I chose a major in college solely for the income that I could make in the future. I think a lot of young kids think this way because of the influences of our parents or the media portraying we need to have “things” in order to achieve happiness. Is that what life is about? Choosing a path solely on monetary value? After being in the workforce as an IT consultant and making a lucrative salary, I would say the answer is no.

Being tied to a career that you have no interest in and it just feels like “work” is horrible. You wake up each Monday looking forward to the weekend, looking forward to the break from the monotony which is your job. That’s no way to live and I’m thankful that something in the back of my mind made me self-aware to this fact. As best we know it, we have one life, why not make it one worth living?

I decided to quit my IT consulting gig and hit the ground running with my true passion in life, Marketing. I started WalletGyde with my co-founders and got a job at a marketing agency to supplement my income. The truth is, when switching from IT to marketing, I took a huge pay cut. The freedom I earned is priceless. Remember this, it’s okay to take a step back in order to take two steps towards your future. Waking up each morning wanting to do the best work possible all while feeling like it’s not “work” is humbling. Not many people can say that, and I appreciate the Journey it took to get me here. I encourage anyone reading this to look in the mirror and be honest with yourselves, what is it you truly want out of life? Once you define it, map out the journey it takes to get you there and run with it. You never know, your whole life may change.

If you find yourself in a similar situation as I did, taking a step back in order to take two steps towards your future, let WalletGyde help you along the way. We help outline the steps needed to complete your financial goals and if you find yourself changing careers, we’ll make sure you never stray from that path on your Journey.

Regards,
